I was out to grab a sandwich, but saw the heron perched well down the slough. For once, I had a way to approach without crashing through brush and branches. I set the camera to what I thought would give me the best chance of success and circled carefully around, hoping that it wouldn't take flight before I got there.
Lucky at last. It sat still for a few frames before losing patience with me.

It's perfectly lovely.
I was pretty happy with the shot initially, but this was a quick edit at work. I experimented with the file at home in Lightroom, developing from RAW directly into a toned grayscale conversion and then printed it... it really popped. Looks much better on paper than on a monitor.
